Dirichlet's Theorem on Arithmetic Progressions (Feb 2024)

Suppose $k$ and $l$ are positive integers such that $k>1$, $k$ and $l$ are coprime. Then, there are infinitely many primes $p$ of the form $kn+l$, where $n$ is a positive integer. The proof hinges on Dirichlet characters and $L$-functions.

The Brun sieve is a method in Analytic Number Theory for estimating the density of sets of integers that satisfy certain congruences. We investigate this sieve method and a related result on twin primes.
